Confessions in times of Corona : Antoine Haddad

09/04/2020

Antoine Haddad, founder of Artlab gallery

Do you think this situation will lead to a change? And if so, how?

The actual worldwide economic and sanitary condition will have to lead to a new social pact, most leaderships have proved incapable of sustaining a decent lifestyle for their citizens. Lebanon is no secluded island, we are part of this big village in addition to having a lesser performing system so will be affected even harder. I am afraid that change will only come after a major chaos of the size of the big crash of 1929, but hopefully a new “New World Order” geared towards a more socially equitable and environmentally aware system will emerge as a result. As an art community member I look forward to a rise in more engaged art as artists are at the forefront of sensitivity and social equity

What is your daily routine in confinement?

I have taken up airplane kit building, a long-time hobby of mine, plus cane making. It helps me get my mind off this imprisonment by focusing my attention to the details of what is on hand.

From the simple pleasures of an active life, what do you miss the most?

The social life, meeting with artists and friends

What you don’t miss?

Traffic Jams, superficial local TV programs

To avoid boredom, what do you suggest to our readers:

TV SHOWS : Chernobyl, The young Pope

MUSIC : Mozart’s Requiem
