“Ziara,” meaning visit, is a solo exhibition by Lebanese-Armenian artist Janet Hagopian. Rooted in abstraction, Hagopian’s work reflects on the act of visitation: crossing thresholds, stepping into new spaces, and confronting the traces of memory, identity, and belonging.
Through her layered canvases, Hagopian creates visual environments that feel simultaneously intimate and expansive. Each composition becomes an invitation to pause, to enter a space shaped by color, gesture, and silence. In Ziara, the artist transforms painting into an act of encounter, one that is deeply personal yet universally resonant.
Drawing on her multifaceted cultural background, Hagopian weaves together themes of displacement and rootedness, solitude and connection. Her abstractions are not destinations but passages, reminders that to visit is also to listen, to dwell, and to be transformed by the experience of presence.
With Ziara, Chaos Art Gallery opens its doors to a body of work that is as much about seeing as it is about being seen, inviting audiences to enter into dialogue with the artist’s world and their own inner landscapes.
