In the final stages of the Ottoman period, Palestine experienced a vibrant art movement that flourished through diverse artistic productions. As a pivotal pilgrimage destination for Christians worldwide, the Holy Land drew the attention of Greek and Russian iconographers, alongside local artisans inspired by their craft. This dynamic iconography spread throughout the Levant and extended to Egypt, showcasing Jerusalem as a significant center for artistic creation.

‘On Earth as it is in Heaven’ features an impressive collection of large pilgrims’ maps, a variety of Melkite and Greek icons, and exquisite miniature souvenir icons.

The exhibition is curated by Dar El-Nimer and researched by Mahmoud Zibawi.
