Flowers Blossomed out of Broken Concrete was created after August 4, 2020, in a studio destroyed by the Beirut blast, in a building where no glass remained unshattered, no door left standing, no window unbroken.

The people who live in this building, and I who work in it, were all spared; at 6:07 pm, no one was inside. The building took the blast alone.

Not everyone was as lucky.

Hundreds died.

Children died.

Thousands were wounded.

Five years later, I still find broken glass in my studio, hidden in the most unexpected places.

Five years later, flowers blossomed out of broken concrete.
