BAC VIDEO CLUB – SECOND EDITION

Cinema

09/12/2025 de 18:00 à 20:00

The second edition of BAC Video Club brings together films by Ghida Anouti, Hajar Alrifai & Juan Manuel Chavez, Soraya Hammoud, and Younes Ben Slimane, tracing elemental currents of water and fire to explore displacement, introspection, transformation, and persistence, from a laundromat that becomes a vessel for time and belonging, to the digital landscapes of inner worlds, and the charged poetics of a place shaped by history and change.

Ghida Anouti, Hajar Alrifai and Juan M. Chávez

Traveling Laundry Line, 2024, 14’12”

Our garments live an endless cycle of renewal, washing away, healing and mending, masking and forgetting. However, the laundromat is not only a site of economic exchange; to many immigrant communities, it is a means of survival and placemaking. The act of washing clothes is steeped in distant memories of home, of our mothers, of the riverbank, where the act of laundering clothes was a collective gathering of hands and voices. Perhaps the laundry machine: both witness to and accomplice in the act of forgetting, also yearns to be elsewhere, to remember. In Traveling Laundry Line, a lonely immigrant embarks on a melancholic journey home through a time-traveling laundry machine.

Soraya Salwan Hammoud

20240404, 2025, 13’26”

20240404 – A parasitic tracking of how temporalities, creations, and destructions can coexist and feed into one another. Multiple viewports reveal non-linear recordings of different realms inside a singular porous space.

Younes Ben Slimane

Fire Keepers, 2023, 18′

In Fire Keepers, Younes Ben Slimane explores the complexity of Tunisian reality through fire in its constant mutability and transformative power. This crucial element is thoroughly examined in its metaphorical dimension, as a symbol of resistance throughout the mythical and real history of the country, but also in its actuality as the main protagonist of this project and the symptom of a profoundly upsetting political and social situation.
