“ALLO, BEIRUT?”

Art

Du 15/09/2022 à 18:00 jusqu'au 30/06/2023 à 18:00

12 years ago, an idea for an exhibition was born from inside the forgotten ‘Caves du Roy’.

Today, we: 10 artists, 11 journalists/researchers, 6 collectors, 9 creatives, and 20 team members, are happy to welcome you to the opening of an immersive and interactive exhibition about Beirut, from the ‘60s till today.

“Allo, Beirut?” is a one-year public immersive and interactive exhibition that will take place in the Beit Beirut Museum in Lebanon. Perfectly situated in the heart of Beirut, the Barakat Building, also known as Beit Beirut represents a crossroad, both geographically and symbolically. Located on the former Green Line that divided the city during the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990), the current Beit Beirut Museum was a former sniper’s lair.

The exhibition, which is thought and led by Lebanese activists, artists and journalists, is designed to target the general public and is highly inspired by the life of Prosper Gay-Para. Planned to launch in September 2022 for a year, it represents an important step in term of “Access to Culture for All” in Lebanon, while dealing with social changes, arts, investigative journalism, social justice, education and much more. In addition to the exhibition, a permanent and special cultural program will be implemented to reach a wider more diversified audience,

providing a richer array of cultural and artistic events at the heart of the city of Beirut. The project was designed and constructed in three phases.

The first conceptual phase was implemented by the NGO Manchette in 2021. The second phase which focused on production was implemented by the Neighborhood Initiative (AUB) from 2021-2022. Its third and last phase, which is mainly the exhibition and all activities around that, will be implemented by the NGO Min ila, in 2022-2023. The project aims to rethink our relationship with Beirut, question our present while reclaiming our past to build a brighter future.

Expecting opening hours:

Tuesday to Sunday: 11am to 7pm

Thursday: 11am to 10pm
