PIECES by Roger Moukarzel
ArtDu 09/11/2021 à 18:00 jusqu'au 24/11/2021 à 18:00
On August 4 at 18:08, Beirut was torn apart by an indescribable double explosion with the most deafening sound.
As a war photographer and before even grasping what had occurred, Roger grabbed his camera and ran to the streets.
The blast, its sound and the destruction it had caused were incomparable to anything that the artist had lived or witnessed. He could not believe his eyes. As he wandered amid the chaos, he realized just how lucky he was to still be alive.
At that moment, appalled by the immensity of the tragedy, he was unable to take any pictures. His body simply refused to do so, and it wasn’t until much later that he was able to go back on site...
Pieces’ is a tribute to the two hundred victims of the Beirut blast; two hundred pictures of debris collected on site in tribute to the two hundred victims, with thirteen extra pictures taken on ground zero of exploded containers, as a testimony to the deadliness of the event.
Opening on Tuesday, November 9, from 6 to 9 PM at Galerie Mark Hachem,
