Inside the suffocating walls of a prison cell, two inmates navigate a brutal hierarchy of power, desire, and identity. In this bold variation on Jean Genet’s Deathwatch, Number 23 dives into the psyche of men trapped not only by bars, but by their own illusions and longings. Pia Khalil’s adaptation strips the play to its raw emotional core, offering a visceral exploration of dominance, fascination, and the human hunger to matter—even in the dark.
