Mark Hachem Gallery is proud to present 'Interference Green', a solo exhibition by acclaimed artist Sara Shamma, opening on 12 June 2025, and running until 26 June 2025, in Beirut, Lebanon. The exhibition showcases 20 new and recent works, that mark Shamma's exploration of the color green in unprecedented ways.
In 'Interference Green’, Shamma delves into the essence of green, redefining its boundaries and perceptions through her signature layering technique. Her canvases transcend the two-dimensional plane, appearing almost sculptural as transparent layers give way to thick, vibrant brushstrokes that seem to float in space. This dynamic interplay creates a visual tension that invites viewers to move around the works, discovering shifting hues and emerging forms from every angle.
David Mach RA, known for his large-scale, dynamic installations, was immediately captivated by Shamma’s work. “Her paintings hit you full in the face,” he describes. “We don’t sit in front of paintings for hours, not in the way we watch films or TV. We don’t pick up a painting the way we pick up our book and read from where we left off but Sara’s work stays with you in both of those ways.” He adds “Sara delivers something ‘live‘ to us. That’s an incredible thing. Most art doesn’t do that. Once it’s been made, collected, sits in a museum, appears on a gallery wall it loses something. Sara’s work doesn’t do that. It doesn’t become just history; it lives on and it takes you with it.”
Sara Shamma’s career spans three decades, during which she has exhibited in prestigious museums and institutions across Europe, the Arab world, and the UK. In 2016, she relocated to London on an Exceptional Talent Visa, where she has since become an important presence in the British art scene.
Sara Shamma is a celebrated contemporary artist whose works are known for their emotional intensity and masterful technique. Shamma is a Syrian British artist who lives and works between London and Damascus. Her paintings, often large-scale and vividly expressive, explore themes of existence, conflict, and the delicate nature of humanity.
The artist's recent focus on green is not merely a study of color but a metaphorical journey. Green, in Shamma's vision, symbolizes both regeneration and fragility, a duality that mirrors her own reflections on nature and existence. Through 'Interference Green,' she invites viewers to experience the infinite spectrum of green, not just as a color, but as an evolving experience of depth and perspective.
The exhibition also includes a new and exciting VR experience, “Inside the Mind of Sara Shamma,” which provides a cutting-edge, immersive exploration into the artist’s world with the creative collaboration of AVR-London, who brought Sara Shamma’s vision to life with cutting-edge technology and artistic sensitivity.
