Where are our cultural players in times of war, and what are they doing?
L'Agenda Culturel went to meet them, interview them and listen to their stories.
Katy Younes - Lebanese actress and interdisciplinary artist
How are you doing?
Taking it one explosion at a time.
What is your daily life like in a time of war?
I spent so many months working to the point of burnout. Now that the war has brought everything to a standstill, I wake up to the uncertainty of each day, often juggling the need for safety and the commitment to my craft. I'm trying to establish a routine that includes stretching, reading and small gatherings.
How do you continue your artistic activity?
While the challenges of pursuing an artistic career are significant in any context, they are magnified during wartime. Our artistic life nowadays is a balance between survival and creativity. Yet, I am adapting my practice to the circumstances by resuming Tango dance classes, drawing inspiration from the stories that surround us and collaborating with other artists to join efforts in keeping art alive.
How do you see Lebanon's future?
While the path ahead may be difficult, the resilience of the Lebanese people can pave the way for a positive and essential change in shaping our trajectory in the years to come. Although a clear and realistic vision of the future is still blurry, but holds both challenges and opportunities, and the process of rising again and again requires a collective effort.
To overcome the fear and anxiety, what do you suggest to our readers?
It is normal to feel fear and anxiety during challenging times, but there are ways to cope and find peace, whether through listening, creating or sharing any piece of art. I can't suggest what to read or watch, but I can share what I am currently reading: Tao Te Ching- Lao Tzu.
I invite you to enjoy the process of discovering which art form truly speaks to you
Any last words?
Embrace hope. Hold on to your dreams.
Each challenge is an opportunity for renewal when we stand united.
