The Chris Byars Quartet

Chris Byars - tenor saxophone: Award winning saxophonist and arranger Chris Byars has recorded 17 CDs under his leadership. He has written extensively for the world renowned NDR and WDR orchestras and has received prestigious grants and commissions for his compositions and arrangements. He has toured extensively for the U.S. State Department as a “Jazz Ambassador” and has been on faculty at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Zaid Nasser - alto saxophone: The son of jazz great Jamil Nasser, Zaid learned directly from the legendary masters, including Papa Jo Jones and Ahmed Jamal. He has worked in the groups of Memphis blues great Calvin Newborn. Panama Frances and Savoy Sultans, and organ jazz pioneer Bill Dogget. As a U.S. “Jazz Ambassador”, he has performed and conducted master classes in over 50 countries worldwide.

 

Vahagn Hayrapetyan - keyboard: Vahagn Hayrapetyan is an accomplished jazz pianist, singer, and composer from Armenia. Vahagn's exceptional piano style has been influenced by jazz legends like Barry Harris and Frank Hewitt. He's performed alongside renowned musicians and recorded albums in New Orleans. He's been a part of various international jazz festivals and is a pianist for the Armenian Navy Band. Vahagn formed his own band called "Katuner" and has played globally as a soloist and with ensembles. He's highly regarded in the jazz scene and has also contributed to movie soundtracks. His remarkable sound and performances have earned him recognition as one of Armenia's top jazz pianists.

Keith Balla - drums: Keith Balla has recorded and toured extensively with some of the world’s most recognized emerging artists including Luigi and Pasquale Grasso, and Samara Joy. In New York City, he has performed with late jazz legends Freddie Redd and Annie Ross, and has traveled throughout the world as a U.S State Department “Jazz Ambassador.”
