Mezzanine

When two bodies orbit around one another in space, the realm of possibilities is relatively predictable. When the bodies are three, the interactions become more complex and various types of simulations have to be used to draw their potential trajectories. 

The Camelia Committee is composed of a body of three: Mira Adoumier, Carine Doumit, and Nour Ouayda. As they inhabit a space, each image, each sound, each word, is multiplied by three, a multitude of times.

On the outskirts of an enchanted forest, they have discovered a seemingly secret garden. Along the invisible walls of this garden, they have weaved the polyphonic voices of Camelia. Who is this mysterious woman? Shapeshifting between myth, flower and spirit, she takes the three women on a journey as they attempt to grasp fragments of her various manifestations here and there. 

At the edge of the forest, a garden is a space where these recollections can be found.
 

Mira Adoumier is an author/independent filmmaker based in Beirut and Amsterdam. Through fictional, essayistic works and video installations on landscapes, she explores the relationship between peripheries and centers, opening spaces and strata of possible and alternate realities. 

Carine Doumit is an independent film editor and writer based in Beirut. Her work comprises a variety of feature documentaries, film essays, and experimental videos. She writes texts for and about cinema. 

Nour Ouayda

 is a filmmaker, film critic and programmer. She is a co-editor of the Montreal-based online film journal Hors champ. She is deputy director at Metropolis Cinema Association in Beirut where she also coordinates the Cinematheque Beirut project. Through her films and writing she has been researching the practice of drifting in cinema.
