Spotlight On Hunt Slonem

Expositions

Du 09/11/2020 à 00:00 jusqu'au 31/12/2020 à 00:00

Hunt Slonem is an American artist whose work uniquely combines representational imagery with Abstract Expressionist renderings. Best known for his colorful paintings of tropical birds, butterflies, and rabbits, Hunt tends to embrace the ephemeral beauty of nature, a characteristic that brings a nurturing, spiritual effect to his creations. The animals, painted in almost childlike contour lines, became one of his most famous symbols of innocence, luck and mythology.

Hunt’s lavishly colored canvases are populated with rows of birds mixed with thick brushstrokes in a loosely composed grid with a witty sense of humor. The artist creates exotic forms with expressive and highly textural brushstrokes that are full of intense color. While his subjects have remained consistent over the last decade, he continues to use new techniques to create joy and surprise for the viewer.

Slonem’s works can be found in the permanent collections of 250 museums around the world, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Whitney, the Miro Foundation and the New Orleans Museum of Art. He received several prestigious grants, including from Montreal’s Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
