Synopsis in English:

For half of his life Nicolas, the director, used the camera as confidant to film his video diary. With candid humour he embarks on a cinematic rebellion against his family's and society's expectations of the correct life.

Des extraits d’un journal intime tourné depuis son jeune âge se mêlent à des images récentes qui témoignent de la relation à la fois tendre et dysfonctionnelle qu’il entretient avec sa mère et sa sœur. Avec humour et dérision, Nicolas conteste les limites sociales imposées par sa famille et la société libanaise dans son ensemble, se rebellant avec fermeté mais douceur, persévérance mais légèreté.

Director’s Biography in English:

Nicolas Khoury graduated in film and audiovisual studies from the Lebanese Academy of Fine-Arts (ALBA) in 2010. He is an independent documentary filmmaker and film editor living and working in Beirut, Lebanon. His filmography includes three independent medium length films that won awards in multiple festivals.

His last short independent documentary “Résonances” won the best short documentary at It's All True film festival , Brazil - 2018, and the Tanit D'or of the best short documentary in Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage, Tunis - 2018. “Fiasco” is his first long documentary that premiered in CPH:DOX and won two awards at Cairo International Film Festival 2021.

Diplômé de l'ALBA en 2010, Nicolas Khoury est un monteur et réalisateur indépendant basé au Liban. Il a aussi réalisé quatre documentaires entre courts et moyens métrages : son documentaire “Résonances” a gagné le prix du meilleur court documentaire au festival It’s All True (Brésil 2018) et le Tanit d'or aux Journées cinématographiques de Carthage JCC (Tunis 2018). FIASCO est son premier long documentaire qui a fait sa première au CPH:DOX (2021) et qui a gagné deux prix au festival international du Caire en 2021.
