You are invited to the opening of "Entangled Matters 2.0", a public art installation and exhibition by fiber artist Adrian Pepe.
This production is powered by Lamia Choucair and in collaboration with the Sursock Palace Association.
With a food performance by multi-disciplinary artist and chef Zeina Hamady.
For the public installation, we are wrapping a building facade affected by the port explosion in hand-felted wool textile produced in Lebanon. Felt, one of the oldest known textile-making processes, historically served various purposes, including shelter, clothing, and wound healing. This artistic gesture reveals the latent potential within this indigenous material offering a message of repair and resurgence, drawing parallels between the urban body and the human body.
The works showcased inside of the wrapped building will feature a series of wall hangings, inflated sculptures, and a performance navigating themes of post-nature, reflecting on the hybrid codes and entanglements with other-than-human agents that compose our present moment.
Villa des Palmes is part of the domain on which stands Sursock Palace. The villa, built by the Sursock in the mid 1860’s, was originally used as stables on the street level and accommodation for the coachman on the first floor.
It is an excellent example of a Beirut town house of that period. A modern extension one century later was added to the back of the house and designed by well-known architect Jacques Ligier-Bellair. The building was heavily damaged by the Beirut Port explosion and is currently undergoing extensive restoration
