Screening at IGR Beirut of 'Auto da Compadecida' a Brazilian comedy-adventure film, released in 2000, directed by Guel Arraes, starring Matheus Nachtergaele, Selton Mello, and Rogério Cardoso. During the Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix, an event created by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture, the film received awards for best director, best screenplay, best release and best actor. It was seen by more than two million viewers, making it the highest-grossing Brazilian film of 2000.

The movie is based on the 1955 play 'Auto da Compadecida' by Ariano Suassuna, with elements from The Saint and the Pig, Tortures of a Heart and The Penalty and the Law, both by the same author, as well as influences from Decameron, a classic by Giovanni Boccaccio.
The work was filmed in 1999, in the city of Cabaceiras, in the interior of the state of Paraíba, the scene of several other Brazilian films, with a production partnership between Globo Filmes and Lereby Produções. It premiered on September 15, 2000, in Brazil, and was selected in other countries at cinema events and in media for distribution. It was received with positive reviews in most South American countries.
